DnD is an interesting game. I haven't a spiral into getting so lost into a character that I start chanting magic spells, nor do I feel the such a connection to my character that if said character were to die I would feel the urge to commit suicide.
DnD is just another game to me, albeit one that has much more possibilities in it than most. One can do a lot more things and use their imagination to their advantage. I have talked with the game's DM and he has said that he played for years (it sounds like over a decade). He is neither an imbalanced nor occult worshiping person (spells are just done in the game, no hand gestures/devil worship necessary). Aslo from what I can tell, some of the players have families.
To say that DnD is more than a game would be a stereotype, but so would saying it is perfectly fine. It is all in what the players do and how they act. What one gets out of DnD is up to the players, for good or ill.
