This post describes the good of DnD. It tries to reason with the stereotypical evangelists that talk about how horrible DnD is. This will be taken to heart as well, and, as at least with everything, is to be taken with a grain of salt.
DnD is assumed to cause children to behave improperly, but evidence shows different. One complaint often given is that it causes the line of reality and fantasy (role playing) to become fuzzy. At this point, the players believe they are the characters they are playing and may take their own lives. Evidence shows, to the contrary, that these types of people actually lower the suicide rate as compared to others in the same age group. Also, on autopsies and various reports there is no link between DnD and suicide.
Psychologists have studied the role playing environment and find that it is stimulating to the mind. RPG's are a fine way for children and adults to express themselves. Groups with opposing views are fanatical about finding something wrong and often take the reference books out of context.
